Hello, I’m Laura Maree

​

I have been a hairdresser for 23 years, and in that time Hello Gorgeous has grown and evolved alongside me.

​

I began my career in a high‑end salon located next to a local TV station, spending my days working on celebrities. It was a high‑pressure environment with long hours, but it gave me a strong technical foundation and a deep respect for detail.

​

I’m grateful for those early years, yet I soon realised I felt most at home working with everyday people — creating calm, genuine connections rather than navigating the demands of that fast‑paced world.

​

In my 20s, like many others, I was figuring out who I was and how I fit into the world, often pulled into comparison and the high‑maintenance beauty culture around me. I lived a very glamorous lifestyle.

That chapter naturally led me into specialising in hair extensions for many years. I began importing my own brand and training other hairdressers in various methods. It was a vibrant, creative period that taught me about scalp health, business, and helped me refine my hairdressing skills further.

As I grew older, I began to feel a  disconnect. I could see the natural beauty my clients already had, yet my work often revolved around enhancing insecurities rather than celebrating what was natural, real and already  beautiful in myself and my clients.

I decided to take a break from my salon and hair extension business and travelled and worked my way around Australia for 5 years. ​

I finished up my travels, returned home and was offered a management role in a wellness centre, I loved this job! I eventually moved my salon into the wellness centre, and it was here that my world opened up to natural facials, hot and cold therapy, and a more nurturing, sensory approach to supporting clients.

​

I am now into my 40s, my interests have become very grounded in a slower, more intentional way of living. Meditation, health, gardening, cooking, and a deep appreciation for natural, organic, and botanical ingredients have become central to my life. I am fascinated by how gently and effectively these elements support the hair, skin, and nervous system.

​

A few years ago, my Mum was diagnosed with cancer, and I moved my entire life to the Sunshine Coast to be with her. Through a challenging time, beautiful things still unfolded — my Mum recovered, and I met my fiancé.

​

When Mum was back on her feet, it was time for my Fiancé and I to start our life together. We found and fell in love with Laidley and purchased our home. My Fiancé says it feels like the Australia he grew up in — kids playing outside, relaxed, and filled with lovely neighbours and locals who have welcomed us warmly.

​

This move marked the beginning of a slower, more intentional chapter, and it has shaped the way Hello Gorgeous exists today. It is, without doubt, my most aligned and favourite chapter so far.

​

My home‑based salon is a calm, nurturing space designed for clients to pause, rest deeply, and reconnect with themselves. I choose products with care, favouring gentle, low‑tox, botanical ingredients wherever possible. When professional formulations are needed, they are used mindfully and always discussed with my client.

​

Alongside my ritual treatments, I offer NanoPlasty — a long‑lasting, permanent hair straightening service that enhances manageability for 8–12 months, especially helpful for many clients in humid Queensland.
